I offer academic copyediting for researchers, authors, edited volumes, and publishers, with a special focus on archaeology, history, cultural heritage, and related humanities fields.
My experience combines nearly two decades in academia and archaeology with professional copyediting work, including 4.5 years working with Brill publications and current collaboration with BAR Publishing.
Academic Copyediting for Researchers, Authors & Publishers
What I can help with
I support academic texts with:
grammar, syntax, punctuation, and sentence-level clarity
academic tone and readability
consistency of terminology, spelling, punctuation, and formatting
flow and coherence within paragraphs and sections
clarity of argumentation where needed
headings, captions, footnotes, references, and bibliography consistency
preparation according to publisher guidelines
Types of texts
I work on:
monographs
edited volumes
book chapters
journal articles
conference proceedings
research reports
abstracts and academic biographies
humanities and cultural heritage texts written by (non-)native English authors
My approach
My editing is careful, respectful, and author-centred.
I do not rewrite your research into someone else’s voice. I refine the language so your argument becomes clearer, your structure easier to follow, and your manuscript more consistent and publication-ready.
Because of my background in archaeology and history, I am comfortable working with specialist terminology, site descriptions, material culture, chronology, and humanities-style argumentation.
Who this service is for
This service may be a good fit if you are:
a researcher preparing a manuscript for publication
an editor of a volume seeking language and consistency support
a (non-)native English academic author
a publisher looking for reliable copyediting support
a scholar working in archaeology, ancient history, cultural heritage, or related fields
How it works
You send me a short description of the project, including word count, deadline, subject area, any publisher guidelines, and available budget.
I review the scope and confirm whether the project is a good fit.
You receive a quote and timeline.
I edit in Word using Track Changes and comments where useful. I can also provide an overview report for the suggested changes and issues found, if necessary. I can write alt texts for figure captions, if necessary.
You receive the edited file and, if agreed, a clean version.
Fees
Fees are quoted individually based on word count, level of editing, deadline, and project complexity.
